Dr. Marvin O. Looney, the first president of Missouri Western State University, passed away on September 29 at the age of 97. He is remembered as a pivotal figure who guided the school’s transition from a junior college to the four-year institution it is today, overseeing major campus construction and the growth of its athletic programs. After retiring from Missouri Western in 1983, the World War II veteran went on to lead universities in Alaska and West Plains.
